Your diary, photos, and backups

Your working diary and attached photo copies stay on your Mac. Daypetal does not upload them to our servers. The working library is not encrypted by Daypetal; encrypted backups are separate.

Automatic backups use your iCloud Drive and a backup key stored in your iCloud Keychain. These are handled through your Apple account. Manual encrypted exports go to the folder you choose. Daypetal’s statistics never include your diary, plans, photos, backup contents, passwords, or encryption keys.

Installer and update download counts

Our server keeps separate counts for Mac installer requests (DMG or legacy installation ZIP) and update ZIP requests. A successful full-file response or response for the first file chunk adds one count. We keep daily totals by app version and broad referral category (direct, Instagram, Facebook, Google, or other). We do not add tracking cookies, browser analytics scripts, or persistent visitor identifiers for these counts.

These are request totals, not unique people, verified downloads, or installations. Retrying a first chunk can add another count; interrupted downloads and automated requests may also be included. Metadata checks, later chunks and checks for available updates do not count. Requesting an update ZIP manually also adds to the update-download total. No diary or photo data is involved.

Optional app usage statistics

In app versions that offer “Share usage statistics to help improve Daypetal,” sharing is off until you switch it on in Settings → General. If enabled, an open, visible app sends at most one successful daily report containing the app version, UTC day, and a code derived on your Mac that changes each day. We use this to estimate daily participating active installations, not to follow your activity across days.

The local reporting key is not uploaded or included in diary backups. Turning sharing off cancels pending reports and clears that key and the local reporting record. Reports already received cannot be recalled through that setting, and non-identifying aggregate totals remain. We do not require sharing to use any app feature.

Retention, hosting, and privacy signals

Only today’s and yesterday’s optional app activity codes are eligible for deduplication. Download requests are stored only as daily totals, without per-transfer records. Older codes are deleted on the next statistics write or dashboard read. Aggregate daily totals are kept for a rolling 90 days and cleaned up on the same schedule. Our dashboard is restricted to the site owner.

Our hosting providers, OpenAI Sites and Cloudflare, necessarily receive connection information such as IP addresses and request headers when delivering the website, downloads, update checks, or statistics. Their operational and security processing is separate from our statistics database; we do not write IP addresses, user agents, or raw event payloads into that database or our application logs.

We honor browser Do Not Track and Global Privacy Control request headers by excluding those requests from both download counters. We do not use these statistics for advertising profiles, sell them, share them with ad networks, or combine them with your diary. Essential network requests still occur when you use online features.

Updates and contributions

Checking for app updates connects to daypetal.com for release information and downloads. Update checks are not used to count active installations. Optional contributions open Stripe’s payment page; Stripe handles payment details under its own privacy policy. We do not receive or store your full card number in Daypetal.

Questions and your choices

You can disable optional app reporting in Settings → General. Browser Do Not Track and Global Privacy Control request headers exclude installer requests from our counts. For privacy questions or applicable access/deletion requests, contact the Daypetal Facebook Page.

Because our daily totals do not identify individual people, we may be unable to locate an individual contribution to an aggregate. We will explain material changes here and request fresh consent before expanding optional app collection beyond your choice.
